Rules for Access
The rules regulating access to the Real Jardín Botánico library and archive to consult its holdings and use its services have been defined so that the library and archive can fulfil their mission of conservation, while permitting the dissemination and use of their bibliographic and documentary assets. These rules take into account their characteristics and the access restrictions established to conserve the goods kept in them, the function of the institution, and the provisions of article 62 of Law 16/1985, 25 June 1985, on Spain's Historical Heritage.

To guarantee the security and integrity of the holdings, various levels of user are envisaged, depending on the type of document required or type of query.

  1. Anybody can access the general information service, provided they give their identification details and state the reason for their visit.
  2. In order to consult the library's contemporary holdings a form needs to be completed stating the items you wish to consult.
  3. Only RJB staff, holders of a CSIC visitors card and persons linked to the centre's research projects, with the approval of the head of the Library Unit, may enter the book and journal deposit. If any other researchers need to enter the deposit to consult one or more thematic areas, they must ask for express permission from the head of unit. All other researchers must consult materials in the reading room only.

Use of personal computers
Readers may use personal computers in the reading room. To enable them to do so, the tables are fitted with the necessary power sockets.

Safety rules

  • Eating and drinking (including bottled water) are not allowed in the library or archive.
  • The use of mobile telephones is not allowed in the library or archive.
