Historical notes

Since 1775 the Real Jardín Botánico has stored the abundant documentation produced by the Garden, to which has been added, material from the various botanical expeditions undertaken in the 18th and 19th centuries, by deposit or donation, along with a number of personal archives, such as those of Cavanilles, Lagasca, Cuatrecasas, Guinea, Winthuysen, etc. The first catalogue, "Index of the Manuscripts, Drawings and Engravings of the Royal Botanic Garden" dates from 1815 and is by Simón de Rojas Clemente, the librarian at the time.
